“昔は出会いの場は少なかった。だから狭い世界で出会った人と、多少のことは目をつむって暮らしてきた。昔の大人は我慢強かった。世界が狭いがゆえに、そこで生きて行くしかないことをよく知っていた。狭い世界は、15年や20年も人生を送れば、一通りのものが見られた。その世界の外側があることは認識していたが、手が届くものではなかった。好奇心は失われ、黙々と生きる日々を送ることができた。それが「大人になる」という事だった。

いま、世界は事実上、無限に広がっている。人々との出会いはいくらでもある。住みたいところに住み、食べたいものを食べ、寝たいところで寝る、そういった事も、そう難しい話ではなくなった。広がりすぎた世界にいると、好奇心は満足することがない。飽きることがない。「好奇心を失うこと＝大人になること」だった時代は、そこで終わりを告げる。世界は無限だ。昔の大人から見れば、彼らはいつまでたっても子供のままに見えるだろう。”
